The October ZOOM display was a very informative talk by an American member Gary Loew FRPSL. Called British and German collaboration on Deutsches Lufthansas routes to South America (1933-1939). He gave a very detailed account, from primary sources which he has in his collection, of how Germany had organised a cross Atlantic airmail service from the Gambia to South America using Seaplanes fired from Catapults fitted to Steamers moored up in mid Atlantic in the 1930’s. It had revolutionised the speed of communications with South America which in turn had proved an invaluable resource for Global companies who traded with South America. The alternative method of Transatlantic communication, Zeppelins, were slower and specialised in transporting parcels and heavier mail due to weight restrictions on the Catapult launched seaplanes. The display was recorded and will soon be available on the Postal History Societies Facebook page.
